How to Prepare for Lip Filler (Avoid Bruising Checklist)

Lip filler bruising is mostly preventable. Most of the work happens in the 7 days *before* your appointment, not after. Here's a clean prep checklist that works for first-timers and repeat patients.

    7 days before

Stop fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo, garlic supplements, and St. John's wort. These thin the blood. Don't stop prescription blood thinners without talking to your prescriber.

    3 days before

Skip alcohol. Hydrate well. Begin Arnica tablets if your provider recommends them.

    Day of

Eat a normal breakfast. Skip caffeine if it makes you jittery. Bring a lip product you can use for cold relief later (skip anything with retinol). Don't wear lipstick to the appointment.

    What to bring

Sunglasses, a hat, and a mask if you're going somewhere afterward — swelling can be significant for the first 12–24 hours, especially with first-time lip filler.

    FAQ

How long is lip filler swelling?+

Peak swelling is 24–48 hours. Most resolves within 5–7 days. Full settling is 2 weeks. First-timers swell more than repeat patients.

Should I take Tylenol or ibuprofen before lip filler?+

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is fine. Avoid ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen, and other NSAIDs for 24–48 hours before — they increase bruising.
